How do I apply?
An undergraduate application needs to be completed (on-line if you wish) and mailed in along with: a $30.00 non-refundable application fee (cash, check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa in U.S. dollars), an official high school transcript, and your ACT/SAT scores. Credit card payments are made when you submit your on-line application. If transferring from another school, you will need to send an official college transcript from each institution that you have attended. For a complete list of directions, visit the Admission Directions web page.
Is there an application deadline?
First-time freshmen applications and credentials received after March 1st will be reviewed on a space available basis. Applying early allows for more timely consideration for your application and early choice of on-campus housing.
Most new students begin applying prior to December of their senior year in high school. Transfer students should apply at least six weeks prior to the term in order to allow time for application processing and evaluation of transfer credit.
For a complete list of deadlines, visit Application Deadlines.
What are the admission requirements?
Students apply for admission to a specific college and academic program. Admission requirements vary by college and curriculum. Decisions about freshman admission are based primarily on high school courses and grades, performance on the ACT or SAT, and high school rank. Applicants to the School of Music must also pass an audition. Admission to the School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene is a two step process with the new freshmen being admitted to the Lower Level Division and then reapplying to the more competitive Upper Division as a junior. For a complete list of requirements, visit the Admission Requirements web page.
Do you accept ACT or SAT scores?
We accept both the ACT and SAT tests.
- Our ACT test code is 1556 and,
- our SAT test code is 1838.
Do I have to pay the application fee?
You must pay the application fee in order for your application to be complete. If you are receiving any type of Federal or State aid such as AFDC, SSI, Food Stamps, are on free/reduced lunch program, received an ACT/SAT fee waiver, etc., your application fee will be waived. In each case, you must submit documentation showing your participation or receipt of aid.
How long does it take to receive an admissions decision?
Once we have received all of your credentials in the Office of Admissions the admissions process normally takes 14 - 21 days. You will receive notice in the mail of your admissions status.
I am from Indiana, do I have to pay out of state tuition?
The University of Louisville is participating in an Indiana tuition reciprocity program for residents of Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Washington or Scott Counties who are enrolled as undergraduates. Eligible Southern Indiana residents are charged in-state tuition. Eligible participants are required to notify the admissions office prior to their first enrollment and the registrar's office after their first enrollment of any changes in enrollment status, if they no longer live in one of the eligible counties, or are no longer in an eligible program. The University reserves the right to further investigate and require documentation for eligibility for tuition reciprocity. For more information, visit Admissions' residency information web page.
What is the tuition cost for attending UofL?
For information on tuition cost (Note: University fees are subject to the approval of the Board of Trustees and may be changed without prior notice.) and overall cost, visit Admission's How Much Does It Cost to Attend UofL? web page.
Do you offer academic scholarships?
Yes. We have several scholarship programs that recognize outstanding academic credentials and extracurricular accomplishments. For more details on our scholarship programs, check out the scholarship page.
Do freshmen have to live on campus?
It is not mandatory for freshmen to live on campus their first year. However, we do encourage it. Residents who live on campus stay in school longer, are more likely to graduate, and usually have a more positive college experience than those who live off campus. Being close to classrooms, faculty, campus facilities and activities give on-campus students an advantage. The friendships that develop between residents will be strong and more than likely last a lifetime. It is also an opportunity for students to experience being on their own within a secure, well maintained and supportive environment. For more information on housing, check out the Housing & Residence Life page.
I have taken advanced placement classes, do you accept AP credit at UofL?
Yes. We award credit on the basis of scores on the Advanced Placement Examinations of the College Board. Scores should be submitted to the Admissions Office as soon as they are available. A list of advanced placement credit is avaliable on-line.
I have a disability, is there anyone on campus to help me with my needs?
I have a disability, is there anyone on campus to help me with my needs?
Yes. The Disability Resource Center has a variety of services available to you and other students who are covered within the Americans with Disability Act of 1990. Contact the DRC at (502) 852-6938.
I have already been admitted to UofL, what do I have to do now?
If you have already been admitted, you will receive information regarding orientation and registration information. This information will be sent to you prior to the beginning of the start of the semester.
When do classes begin?
For a list of class begin and end dates, check out the UofL calendar of Events.
How safe is your campus?
Many students and families are understandably concerned about campus safety. UofL is proud to report it has one of the lowest crime rates among comparable schools in the region. Personal safety and campus security have always been top priorities for UofL. In accordance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, UofL has information available for prospective students on crime prevention and statistics, policies on sexual misconduct, and policies on drug/alcohol use and possession. For more information, check out the Public Safety homepage.
